History

The company was founded in 1979 by Mr. Thys Horn, BSc Eng (Mech), MBL, (University of Pretoria, South Africa). At the time he already had more than 15 years experience in the mining industry. He thus had a good understanding of the problems and needs of this industry and could plough back his invaluable experience back into it.

METQ developed and built its own polyurethane spraying equipment to spray solventless polyurethane as a wear resistant coating. With this equipment a 98% density could be achieved, and then be built up to any thickness.

METQ could then recondition damaged spirals. This brought on an enormous cost saving for the mining industry, because formerly they had to replace damaged spirals.

At first METQ built spirals for other plant manufacturers until it undertook to build and assemble complete plants. The first such plant was built and exported in 1986.

Since then, METQ has grown from strength to strength as a leader in the development and manufacturing of mining equipment in South Africa.

Products

Total engineering packages are available for the different products like spiral gravity separators, hydrocyclones, and screens.

METQ is an agent for Wilfley Mining Machinery Company for the Wilfley and Holman shaking tables.

Research & Development

Research and development is the keystone to METQ's success in the past and growth in the future. It plays a vital and important role in the continuous development and upgrading of existing products, new products, and techniques.

METQ believes that its technology used to develop a new spiral, with a constant pitch and even profile in a short space of time, is unique.

Facilities

METQ operates from its own premises in Rosslyn, near Pretoria, in a factory of 1850m2. A fully equipped toolroom and the necessary skill is used to produce all the moulds, dies, and jigs for the manufacture of all products.

The factory is equipped with an overhead crane, polyurethane moulding facility, polyurethane spray booth, GRP lamination facility, steel fabrication equipment, and vehicles which are all used in the manufacturing process.

Organizational Structure

METQ has a stable workforce resulting in long service records and a considerable amount of depth among these employees
